The occupation authorities announced the creation of the so-called Azovo-Syvash National Park on the left bank of Kherson Oblast.
This was reported by Russia-controlled media with reference to the government of Russia.
According to the occupiers, the park is planned to be created on the basis of a previously existing natural park, whose area will exceed 37,000 hectares.
The main purpose of creating the park is “the preservation of the natural complexes of the Sivash Bay”, in particular the islands, peninsulas and shallow lagoons.
Recall that the legally registered Azovo-Syvash National Natural Park is located on the Biryuchyi Island spit, in the western part of the Sea of Azov in Kherson Oblast.
It was created in 1993 by transforming the Azovo-Syvash reserve into a national natural park.
In the 2000s the park was run by Yevheniy Popovchuk, a deputy of the Henichesk city council from OPZZh.
After February 2022, Popovchuk began cooperating with the occupation authorities and controlled the territory of the nature park, which the occupation authorities re-registered under Russian law.
In 2023 Popovchuk was elected to the illegal local council in Henichesk from the “United Russia” party and continues to work for the Russians, for which he received from Ukrainian law enforcement a suspicion of collaborationism, official negligence and participation in conducting illegal elections.
About how the whole family of Yevheniy Popovchuk cooperates with the occupiers – MOST reported via the link.
