Russian forces have built an extensive system of underground tunnels in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson Oblast.
This was reported in an interview with UNIAN by the spokesman for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces, Ukrainian Armed Forces Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn.
According to him, the length of the dug tunnels and underground passages currently ranges from 30 to 40 kilometers. The main underground construction by the enemy was deployed in the areas north of Oleshky and Kozachi Laheri.
“North of Oleshky, Kozachi Laheri – everything is concentrated deep underground – movement of personnel, artillery positions, takeoff and landing pads for drones… Thus, the Russians have created a powerful deep defense system to attack our populated areas and remain unscathed… Following the same principle, only on a much larger scale, the HAMAS group arranged an underground city in the Gaza Strip”, – said Voloshyn.
The colonel also noted that the intensity of drone attacks in the south is extremely high: over 2,000 strikes by kamikaze UAVs of various types are recorded per day, and about a third of them hit Kherson.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian marines pushed the Russians off islands near Kherson and expanded “kill zone” on the left bank.
