The court in absentia found guilty a militant of the 109th Rifle Regiment of the so-called “DPR” of cruel treatment of the civilian population and violation of the laws and customs of war. He was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment.
The press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reports this.
According to the investigation, in August 2022, when one of the settlements of the Beryslav district of Kherson region was occupied by the enemy, the convicted person, together with another Russian serviceman, broke into the home of a local woman.
Threatening the woman with a firearm, the occupiers searched the house. They then demanded information about ATO participants living in the settlement, as well as about persons whom, in their opinion, the victim might have given the coordinates of locations of military equipment and personnel of the Russian forces.
Having not received the desired answers, the convicted threatened to cut off the victim’s fingers. He forced the woman to completely undress, firing several shots in her direction. Left alone with the victim, he raped her.
The convicted person will serve the sentence after being detained.
As a reminder, the Russian major-general who organized the occupation of the Kherson region also received an in absentia sentence. After his detention he will serve 15 years in prison.
