The Kherson Court of Appeal denied a Luhansk Oblast native, Mykhailo Zhytniy, who is accused of treason, in his attempt to be added to the list for an exchange with Russia.
This is stated in the court ruling.
According to investigators, while living in Kherson, Zhytniy passed on to Russian military personnel information about the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units and equipment, infrastructure facilities, and people with pro‑Ukrainian views in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson Oblast.
Investigators also claim that he photographed places where civilians gathered and used his job at “Nova Poshta” to obtain information about the number and contents of parcels intended for military purposes.
In total, the man is accused of 12 instances of passing information to Russian military personnel during the period from October to December 2024.
Since January 2025 the man has been in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces between 15 years’ imprisonment and life imprisonment.
Zhytniy asked to overturn his detention and to compel the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoner of War Affairs to include him on the lists for the next exchange to reunite with his family.
However, the court noted that it does not have the authority to oblige the authorized bodies to include the accused on exchange lists as a prisoner of war, so the complaint was dismissed.
