In the Kherson region, a court found the commander of a rifle company guilty of negligent performance of military service, which led to the loss of military property worth more than 500 thousand hryvnias.
As reported by the Kherson Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Southern Region, the official was convicted under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
By the court’s verdict, the serviceman was sentenced to two years of service restriction. Also, 20% will be deducted monthly from his pay for the benefit of the state.
In addition, the court granted the prosecutor’s civil claim for compensation of damages caused to the state.
The investigation established that in 2022–2023 the commander improperly performed duties related to accounting, storage and control of material assets necessary to ensure the unit’s combat tasks.
Due to official negligence, a significant amount of military property was lost, including ammunition, elements of special protection, military pyrotechnic equipment, military uniforms, tactical footwear and communication equipment.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the lost property belonged to the missile and artillery armament services, support forces, the supply service, as well as the communications and information systems group.
During the pre-trial investigation the accused partially reimbursed the damages. Recall, earlier we wrote that in Kherson they sentenced a serviceman for fleeing treatment.
