As of the beginning of June, farmers on the right bank of Kherson region have planted about 1000 hectares of watermelons and over 400 hectares of melons.
This was reported by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
According to the official, due to a cool and rainy spring the development of melon crops is lagging behind the usual schedule by about two weeks. The first watermelon harvest is expected no earlier than the beginning of July.
It is also noted that in one of the farms the areas under watermelons were increased to 45 hectares, which is three times more than last year. Areas under melons grew to 20 hectares, and under potatoes – to 30 hectares. From eight hectares they have already harvested the first yield of early potatoes with a yield of about 30 tons per hectare.
Earlier it was reported that farmers on the right bank of Kherson region will sow 20% more land.
