Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine recorded in Kherson the largest losses of agricultural land among the southern regions after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP and the Russian occupation.
This was reported by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
According to satellite monitoring data, in 2024 more than 71% of the territory of Kherson region was under occupation. At the same time, areas under certain agricultural crops decreased by 71-98%.

Scientists analyzed land use changes using satellite data in Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Kherson region suffered the greatest losses.
Researchers note that even after the restoration of water supply the agricultural sector will not be able to automatically return to its pre-war state. For this, demining of the territories, reconstruction of infrastructure, attracting investment and the implementation of modern water-saving technologies are necessary.
Earlier the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine updated the methodology for the normative monetary valuation of agricultural land in frontline regions. The changes directly concern the agro-sector, which suffered significant losses due to the war and the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.
