In the Kherson region, 14 underground schools will operate in the new 2026–2027 school year.
This was reported by the deputy head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, on the “We Are Ukraine” broadcast.
According to the official, 10 underground schools operated this school year. Two more are already almost ready to open, and construction of two additional facilities is underway. The work is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
Tolokonnikov noted that underground schools are being established in safer settlements that are surrounded by other communities. Transportation to educational institutions will be organized for children.
At the same time, in coastal settlements and in Kherson itself, schooling remains remote for now due to the security situation and ongoing Russian shelling.
Earlier it was reported that in Kherson region in the 2025–2026 school year operated 170 institutions of general secondary education and nine branches, which were attended by more than 50 thousand students.
