According to the results of the first half of 2026, Kherson region found itself among the regions with the most critical demographic imbalance in Ukraine.
This was reported by Opendatabot, citing data from the Ministry of Justice.
Thus, in Kherson region there are 14 deaths per one newborn. Constant shelling, danger, and forced evacuation of the population continue to negatively affect birth rates and the overall demographic situation in the region.
According to the published statistical data, during the first six months of the year 166 children were born in Kherson region. At the same time, 2,274 deaths were recorded in the region.

By the birth-to-death ratio, the region ranks second worst in the country, second only to Donetsk region, where there are 19 deaths per newborn.
Overall in Ukraine, in the first half of 2026, 73,292 children were born, while the number of deaths reached 259,853 people.
On average across the country, mortality exceeds birth rates fourfold, although last year this indicator was 1 to 3. The decline in births in Ukraine compared to the same period last year reached 16%, and compared to the figures before the full-scale invasion, the number of newborns has halved.
