In the Kherson region, on the site of a school destroyed by Russian forces, a new space will be built that will combine the functions of a school, kindergarten and an open community center.
This is stated in an announcement by Big City Lab.
The project will be implemented within the framework of the state program for the comprehensive restoration of settlements affected by Russian aggression. The architectural solution was developed by the urban bureau Big City Lab.
It is noted that the village where the new facility will appear was heavily affected during the hostilities: the school, community center, library and cinema hall were destroyed.
The new school will include an assembly hall, a gym, a library-coworking space, a cafeteria and a bread oven.

“The school year consists of 175 days, from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. — at other times the school is closed. But even during the school year some spaces are used 5-10 times — for example, the assembly hall for ceremonial events or the library for lending and returning books. We designed the building in such a way as to maximize the use of every square meter throughout the year — during the day and in the evening, on weekdays and on weekends,” explains Viktoriia Titova, CEO of the full-cycle urban bureau Big City Lab.
The building will be barrier-free and will consist of five blocks: a central common space, a kindergarten, a primary school, a gymnasium and a sports hall. A radiation shelter will be installed on the premises.

The announcement says that the educational process is planned to be organized through practical lessons and research: the school will have a science laboratory, a technology classroom and an IT room. Single-seat desks will allow for rapid changes in the format of work — from group lessons to a shared circle.
It is noted that the project was created by Big City Lab commissioned by the Service for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure in Kherson Oblast and is being implemented under the coordination of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
