Ukrainian Marines captured two Russian servicemen during another assault attempt on the left bank of the Kherson region.
This was reported on the page of the 34th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade of the 30th Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy.
According to the brigade, a group of Russian soldiers attempted to approach Ukrainian positions unnoticed but were detected by aerial reconnaissance. During the firefight two Russians surrendered. One of them, a junior sergeant, explained his decision as follows: “When I learned that opposite us were the Ukrainian Marines, I realized there was no chance. There were two options — surrender or die. I chose captivity.”
The other captive said that he signed a contract with the Russian army while intoxicated after he was stopped by the police: “They forced me to sign the contract while I was drunk. When I woke up — they said that everything had already been processed. They put me in a minibus; there were six others. Each has their own story: someone drunk, someone who fought, someone because of drugs…”
The captives said that the main reason they went to serve was money. One of them noted: “I enlisted because of debts and unemployment.”
According to the Russians, the commanders’ attitude toward the personnel was harsh, and the conditions were critical. They claim that they were fed once every few days: “We ate once every four days: a can of stew with half a pack of pasta for five to six people.”
It is noted that of the 40 soldiers who were to be sent on the assault, only ten remained alive.
The captives also said that the command intimidated those who did not want to follow orders: “They said: if you don’t go — we’ll wipe you out right here.”
The brigade confirms that the assault was successfully repelled, and the Russian soldiers were handed over to the appropriate services for further processing.
