The UNHCR representative in Ukraine Bernadette Castel-Gollingsworth “deeply” concerned about a Russian strike on a UN vehicle, which was delivering humanitarian aid to residents of Kherson.
This was reported on the official page of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Ukraine.
“I am deeply concerned by repeated incidents of the impact of hostilities on humanitarian workers, which raises questions about compliance with international humanitarian law”, – the statement said.
Castel-Gollingsworth noted that both Russian and Ukrainian authorities had been informed in advance about the conduct of the humanitarian operation.
According to the UNHCR representative, from January to April 2026 there were 56 recorded incidents in which humanitarian staff were affected: three were killed, and another ten were injured.
“Civilians and humanitarian workers must be protected”, – Gollingsworth said.
Earlier, Ukraine’s foreign minister Andriy Sybiha urged the UN and the organization’s member states to condemn the Russian attack on a humanitarian convoy in the Kherson region.
