The International Atomic Energy Agency, as part of an assistance program for the Kherson region, handed over special equipment to the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine. It will be used to address the consequences of the flooding after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.
This is reported on the website of the State Service of Geology and Subsoil.
The equipment received will help specialists more quickly and accurately monitor the state of groundwater in the most affected regions, as well as determine sources of possible contamination, the post says.
Part of the equipment was handed over to the units of the “Ukrainian Geological Company” that work in regions with water supply problems. This includes, in particular, instruments for measuring water levels in wells and equipment for data processing.
In addition, the IAEA will conduct training for Ukrainian specialists so that they can more effectively use modern methods of water resources research and plan further steps for their restoration.
Recall, the dam of the Kakhovka HPP, which was located near the now-occupied city of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region, was destroyed on June 6, 2023. On June 18, the Kakhovka reservoir practically ceased to exist.
As a result of the explosion, almost 10 thousand hectares of wetlands of international importance were destroyed.
