About six thousand civilians, among them nearly 200 children, need evacuation from Oleshky and nearby areas. On May 15 the Ukrainian side discussed the possible removal of people from danger with representatives of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, reports “Suspilne Kherson”.
According to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine is now awaiting agreement from the Russian side on the date for a ceasefire and the start of evacuation measures. People are planned to be evacuated to territory controlled by Ukraine via an alternative route, since a crossing over the Dnipro is currently impossible from a military point of view.
“We found one option that we can implement fairly quickly. Ukrainian citizens must first be evacuated directly from these settlements to a conditionally safe place, from where the Ukrainian side will pick them up and return them to territory under Ukrainian control”, – said Lubinets.
At the same time, the repatriation of the bodies of deceased civilians who remain in the territory of Oleshky and nearby settlements is also being discussed. Their number is still unknown due to the impossibility of fully verifying the information. According to Lubinets, this could be a “rather large number”.
Note that the situation in Oleshky remains critical. The city lacks stable electricity and gas supply, and access to drinking water is limited. People are forced to conserve basic resources, and the delivery of food is often complicated due to the danger of shelling.
