Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets called the negotiations with the Russian side regarding the evacuation of civilians from Oleshky and surrounding villages on the left bank of Kherson region, where a humanitarian catastrophe is ongoing, “productive”.
He said this on the telethon broadcast.
“There were military forces from both sides, a ceasefire to carry out the evacuation was discussed. We are talking about 6,000 civilians, including 200 children. I repeatedly appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross, but, as usual, I received a letter saying, essentially, ensure the ceasefire and arrange directly with the Russians yourselves. And then the ICRC is ready to help with the evacuation”, – Lubinets said.
According to him, yesterday the Ukrainian and Russian sides agreed on all working details and “even preliminarily set a deadline within which the evacuation should be carried out”.
“This was extremely productive work”, – the ombudsman said.
Earlier it was reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross declared its readiness to assist in taking necessary measures to organize the departure of civilians from temporarily occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region.
The local illegal authorities do not acknowledge that there are serious humanitarian problems in the city, and claim that there are no evacuation measures for the population there.
