The panel of judges of the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv has delivered a verdict against the liquidated former MP from Kherson region, Oleksii Zhuravko. He was found guilty of treason.
This is stated in the court ruling.
As the court found, at the start of the full-scale invasion in Kherson region, Zhuravko actively used his media resources to support the Russian Federation.
He managed pages on a Russian social network, his own Telegram channel and a YouTube page, where he spread Russian narratives aimed at destabilizing the situation in Ukraine and discrediting the state authorities.
In particular, in his publications and video addresses he called the killings in Bucha fake, thanked Russian military for “peaceful Kherson” and assured the audience that the Ukrainian authorities would never return to the city.
In addition, Zhuravko publicly called for Ukraine’s capitulation, demanded that Crimea be recognized as Russian, and promoted propagandistic fakes about the operation of “biolabs”.
He was sentenced in absentia to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property.
Recall that Oleksii Zhuravko was raised in the Oleshky boarding school. He was involved in business and was linked to criminal activities.
In 2006 and 2007 he was elected as an MP from the “Party of Regions”. It is believed that at the start of the war in 2014-2015 Zhuravko financed terrorists of the so-called “DPR”. Due to fears of persecution, in 2015 he fled Ukraine.
Zhuravko returned to Kherson at the end of April 2022, and already on 25 September 2022 it became known that he was liquidated during a strike on a hotel in Kherson.
Note that, since the Ukrainian authorities cannot officially confirm the death of Oleksii Zhuravko, he was tried as a living person.
