Art historians have identified another work of art that Russian occupiers took from the Kherson Regional Art Museum named after Oleksii Shovkunenko.
This was reported on the museum’s Facebook page.
It concerns the work «Seiner by the Shore» by Crimean artist Yakov Basov, created in 1988. A fragment of the painting was captured in photographs taken in early March 2026 during a visit by representatives of the occupying Ministry of Culture to the Central Museum of Taurida.

“Crimean native Yakov Basov, People’s Artist of Ukraine, a student of the legendary Mykola Samokysh, entered the history of art as one of the most talented marine painters and masters of the Crimean landscape. Although he worked in various techniques, it was in watercolor that he achieved particular mastery, combining technical complexity with lightness and dynamism. His works are recognizable due to their special «luminosity» – he could depict the sun in such a way that it seemed as if the canvas emitted real warm light. Basov was often called “the poet of Crimea,” — the statement said.
Earlier it was reported that art historians identified another work from the collection of the Kherson Art Museum named after Oleksii Shovkunenko in photographs from the Crimean Central Museum of Taurida taken in March 2026. The work in question is a canvas by Volodymyr Khorenko, «Donetsk Metallurgist» (1972, canvas, oil).
