The head of a religious community from the Kherson region, Pavlo Pleshivtsev, who caused a fatal road crash in Kyiv, was remanded in custody for 60 days without the right to post bail.

The prosecutor insisted on keeping the suspect in custody, citing the risks of his possible flight. At the same time the defense asked to take into account Pleshivtsev’s health condition, who after the accident is in the hospital under guard and cannot move, as well as his family situation – the man is the father of five children.
The lawyer said that his client realizes the consequences of the tragedy and feels “unspeakable shame and hatred for himself”.
“He is not very happy that he is alive. You know, men perhaps are not able to show strong emotions outwardly, however that this is undoubtedly a terrible tragedy and everything points to him as the person who caused it – my client fully realizes this. […] If it were not for the court, and civilization, and the rules of law, he would simply have been torn to pieces in that car, they would not even have pulled him out of it”, – the lawyer said.
The lawyer also said that the suspect had previously been a driver of a humanitarian convoy, took part in evacuation missions from occupied territories and did not use the right to travel abroad as a father of many children.
Despite this, the court supported the prosecution’s position and imposed a preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention until August 3, 2026.
Recall, according to the investigation, on June 5 Pleshivtsev at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz on a curved section of the road exceeded the speed limit, lost control and crashed into an underground passage, where people were present.
As a result of the accident, four pedestrians died – two police officers, a woman and a 12-year-old boy. Three other people were injured.
The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that at the time of the accident the driver was sober.
According to MOST, Pavlo Pleshivtsev is the head of the religious community of Evangelical Christian Baptists “Church of the village of Pidstepne”, registered in the Oleshky community.
