Kherson City Court has sentenced the former head of the regional phthisiopulmonology center, Eduard Sulzhyk, who collaborated with the occupiers during the city’s occupation.
This is stated in the relevant court decision.
The investigation determined that in the summer of 2022 Sulzhyk voluntarily took charge of the medical institution, re-registering it under Russian law.
In this position he implemented hostile measures: he ordered the removal of Ukrainian symbols, organized salary payments in rubles and prohibited staff from using Ukrainian electronic medical record systems. He also threatened to dismiss employees who refused to recognize the occupying authorities.
In addition, Sulzhyk engaged in propaganda, convincing the staff that the Kherson region would permanently remain part of Russia.
Before the liberation of Kherson, he organized the removal of community property, including computer equipment, to Kalanchak.
Later the occupiers appointed him to run a hospital in Kalanchak, where he continued to publicly support the actions of the Russian Federation.
After examining the evidence, the court in absentia found Eduard Sulzhyk guilty of aiding an aggressor state.
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison with confiscation of all property.
