Students of the Kherson Children and Youth Sports School for Chess and Checkers of the Kherson City Council took part in a qualifying chess tournament that was held in Mykolaiv from January 7 to 11.

Six Kherson athletes took part in the competition. According to the tournament results, some participants won prize places and met the norms for sports ranks.
First place was taken by Yehor Melnyk — he scored 7.5 points out of 10 possible and achieved the norm for the III sports rank. Second place, with 7.5 points, went to Danylo Ulyanchenko, who also achieved the norm for the III rank.
Among the girls, first place was taken by Nana Fedenko — she achieved the norm for the I youth rank.
Dmytro Danyshyn and Timur Shpachenko competed in the tournament aiming for the III sports rank, but did not achieve the norm.
Hlib Ulyanchenko debuted in the tournament aiming for the I youth rank.
