Law enforcement officers have notified two residents of Kakhovka — Oleksiy Kravchenko and Oleksandr Makohonyk — of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war during the temporary occupation of Kherson Oblast.
This is stated on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
According to the pre-trial investigation, in 2022 representatives of the occupying authorities used seized administrative and law enforcement buildings in Kakhovka as places for the illegal detention of civilians and the application of physical and psychological pressure against them.
This refers, in particular, to the premises of the police station on Melitopolska Street, where people were illegally detained, interrogated and violence was used to obtain information about pro-Ukrainian views or possible cooperation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
Investigators established that on October 10, 2022, Russian servicemen detained a civilian resident of Kakhovka district and brought him to the seized police station. There the man was held for about 12 days — until October 22.
According to the investigation, Kravchenko and Makohonyk, who collaborated with the occupation police, took part in the victim’s interrogations. During one of the interrogations physical violence was used against him, as well as psychological pressure and threats in order to obtain the necessary information.
In addition, it was established that the victim was held in unsanitary conditions — without adequate food, water, medical assistance, or hygiene items.
The actions of both suspects have been qualified under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of the laws and customs of war committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.
Recall, in 2024 Oleksiy Kravchenko and Oleksandr Makohonyk were already suspected by the Security Service of Ukraine, then they were among 26 occupation policemen in Kakhovka who were suspected of a number of offenses.
