The National Police reported new charges against 86-year-old Kherson collaborator Volodymyr Ovcharenko. He is accused of participating in the organization of illegal elections and publicly supporting the Russian occupation.
This is reported on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to investigators, in August 2023 in Henichesk Ovcharenko headed the so-called headquarters of public election observation created by the occupiers. Through September of that year he organized the observers’ work, conducted training for them, and coordinated activities with illegal election commissions to legitimize the fake elections to the occupiers’ Kherson Regional Duma.
At the same time Ovcharenko acted as a speaker for pro-Russian outlets.
In September 2023 he publicly called to support the pseudo-elections, praised the fake voting, and asserted that the Kherson region should be part of Russia.
For this, Volodymyr Ovcharenko is suspected of collaborationist activity (under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Note that last year Ovcharenko was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison for heading the public council created by the occupiers at the military-civil administration.
In 2024 Ovcharenko was included on the sanctions list approved by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
