The Kherson City Court in absentia found Volodymyr Ovcharenko, the former head of the public council under the occupation military-civilian administration of Kherson region, guilty of collaboration.
This is stated in the court’s verdict.
According to the investigation, during the Russian occupation of Kherson, Ovcharenko voluntarily cooperated with the enemy and headed the public council created by the occupiers under the military-civilian administration.
The court found that in July 2022 he took part in the Russian forum “Мы вместе с Россией” and supported the “Русский Херсон” declaration, which called for the integration of the region into the Russian Federation.
In addition, on September 20, 2022, Ovcharenko publicly called for holding an illegal pseudo-referendum on including Kherson region into Russia.
The court in absentia found Volodymyr Ovcharenko guilty of collaboration (Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all his property. He was also barred from holding positions in government bodies and local self-government for 15 years.
Recall, last year Ovcharenko was added to the sanctions list approved by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
