The Desnianskyi District Court of Chernihiv found former employee of Kherson penal colony No. 90 Andriy Marchenko guilty of collaborationism.
This is stated in the court’s verdict.
According to the investigation, before the full-scale invasion Marchenko worked as a senior inspector (for professional training) in the personnel department at Northern Correctional Colony No. 90 in Kherson and held the special rank “Major of the Internal Service”.
In May 2022, Marchenko voluntarily took the position of head of the assault unit of the special forces in the administration of the Penitentiary Service for Kherson Oblast, which operated on the territory of the occupied Colony No. 90.
After the de-occupation of Kherson, during searches on the territory of the colony Ukrainian law enforcement officers found orders that confirmed Marchenko’s appointment to the position, as well as documents bearing his signatures.
Marchenko was found guilty in absentia of collaborationist activity (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property, and was also stripped of the special rank “Major of the Internal Service”.
As stated in the verdict, according to the SBU, since September 2022 and to this day Marchenko has been residing in temporarily occupied Henichesk on the left bank of Kherson Oblast and has no intention of traveling to territory under Ukrainian control in order to evade criminal liability for the crimes he committed.
It was previously reported that another former employee of Colony No. 90 was sentenced to 15 years for treason.
