Today in the Kherson region it was possible to see an atmospheric phenomenon — a solar halo.
This was reported on the social networks of the Kherson Regional Center for Hydrometeorology.
This refers to a ring of light that formed around the Sun.
It occurs when solar rays pass through tiny ice crystals in the upper layers of the atmosphere and “paint” this ring of light, the post says.
Note that a halo is most often observed in the presence of thin cirrus clouds, which consist of ice crystals.
Sometimes the appearance of such a phenomenon can indicate a change in weather conditions, in particular approaching precipitation.
