As of the end of 2025, the amount of damage inflicted on the ecosystems of the National Nature Park «Kamyanska Sich», located in the Beryslav district of Kherson Oblast, exceeded 107 billion hryvnias.
This was reported to Suspilne by the park’s deputy director, Yuliia Khodosovtseva.
At the end of 2025, 98 fires caused by shelling were documented on the park’s territory. The fire destroyed about 5,000 hectares of protected lands. Due to the burning of the territories, the park is losing unique Red Book-listed plants. Although animals are able to migrate, for those that remained, remotely emplaced mines pose a lethal threat.
The 2023 disaster also led to the drainage of a large part of the park. As a result of the terrorist act committed by the Russians at the hydroelectric power plant, nearly 500 kg of fish died, and the park lost a unique aquatic area that had been part of the European nature conservation category «Emerald Network».
The historical component of «Kamyanska Sich» is also under threat. On the park’s territory is the burial of the Kosh otaman Kostya Hordiienko and Cossack crosses. In 2023, three guided aerial bombs (KAB) struck near the burial. The Cossack relics themselves and the otaman’s grave survived.
All instances of destruction and fires have been documented jointly with the State Ecological Inspectorate and scientists for subsequent recovery of reparations from the Russian Federation.
The National Nature Park «Kamyanska Sich» is located in the Beryslav district of Kherson Oblast. Established in 2019, it encompasses 12,261 hectares of land of natural and historical value.
The park’s natural complex includes areas of virgin feather-grass steppe and an aquatic area that, until 2023, was part of the Kakhovka Reservoir. The territory is integrated into the pan-European «Emerald Network». It is home to over 500 plant species, 40 of which are Red Book-listed.
The historical significance of the site is connected to the functioning of Kamyanska Sich in the 18th century.
