The nationwide “Teacher of the Year” competition is the most prestigious professional contest for educators in Ukraine. It was established in 1995 by a Presidential Decree and has been held annually since to identify the best specialists.
The competition takes place in several stages: the first round (regional), where teachers compete within their oblasts, and the second round (national), where the regional winners meet in the national final, which determines the best teacher in the country in each category.
Each year the Ministry of Education and Science selects four different nominations (subjects) to cover all teachers over several years.
