The Kherson City Court handed down a verdict to a former employee of the Dar’ivska Correctional Colony No. 10, Serhii Kulykovskyi, who during the occupation of the right bank voluntarily joined the Russian side.
This is stated on the EDRSR website.
As the investigation established, Kulykovskyi had worked in the penitentiary system of Ukraine since 2008. At the time of the full-scale invasion he held the position of deputy duty assistant to the head of the institution — head of the duty shift at the Dar’ivska Correctional Colony No. 10 in the Kherson region.
In June 2022 he voluntarily agreed to the occupiers’ offer and took a job at the Northern Correctional Colony No. 90 in Kherson, obtaining the position of junior inspector of the supervision group.
At Colony No. 90, Kulykovskyi carried out checks, searches and inspections, prepared technical inspection acts of the territory and reports, escorted inmates to breakfasts, lunches and to work. For this work he received about 42,000 Russian rubles per month.
After the de-occupation of the right bank of the Kherson region, he was detained by Ukrainian law enforcement officers.
In court the man did not plead guilty. He claimed that he did not submit an application to be hired by the occupiers, but allegedly was following orders from Ukrainian leadership to stay in place and wait for evacuation. He explained receiving money in rubles by his difficult situation.
However, the court regarded these statements as an attempt to avoid responsibility, since numerous reports, acts and records personally signed by him confirmed voluntary cooperation with the occupiers.
A panel of judges found the man guilty of treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and collaborationist activity (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property. He was also deprived of the special rank of senior warrant officer of the internal service.
