In the temporarily occupied settlement of Verkhnii Rohachyk, at the age of 72, Kherson journalist and former editor-in-chief of the local newspaper «Ridnyi Krai» Rodion Mezentsev died.
This was reported by journalist Oleg Baturin.
Rodion Mezentsev was originally from Mala Lepetykha in the Kherson region.
In 1972 he graduated from the Kherson Cultural and Educational College.
At the end of the 1970s he joined the editorial team of the district newspaper «Chervonyi Prapor». He worked his way up from correspondent to head of the agricultural department and responsible secretary. He obtained his higher journalism education in Kyiv.
In 1995 he headed the publication, which by that time had already changed its name to «Ridnyi Krai».
“The last years were difficult for Rodion Illich, the war took away the opportunity to visit Lepetykha, relatives, and fishing. His son died prematurely… he had buried his wife even earlier… health problems intensified… Eternal memory”, – reads the post by Oleg Baturin.
Earlier it became known that in January 2026 the educator and writer from the Kherson region Anatoliy Vysotsky died.
