A pupil of the Kherson Children’s and Youth Sports School of Chess and Checkers, Pavlo Abalmaz, successfully competed at the international chess tournament V Torneio Centenário – SO Marinhense, which was held in Portugal.
This was reported on the page of the Kherson DYUSSH of Chess and Checkers of the Kherson City Council.
The rapid chess competition took place on January 25 in the city of Marinha Grande and gathered 77 participants from different countries. Pavlo Abalmaz, who started the tournament seeded 24th, finished in sixth place.
During the tournament the Kherson athlete added 85 points to his international rating. In particular, he won a game against an international master.
Pavlo is coached by Yevhen Novikov.
Earlier we wrote that pupils of the Kherson Children’s and Youth Sports School of Chess and Checkers of the Kherson City Council took part in a qualifying chess tournament that took place in Mykolaiv. As a result of the tournament some of the participants won prize places and met qualification norms.
