Ambassadors of European Union member states agreed to impose sanctions against the ballet dancer from Kherson, Sergiy Polunin.
This was reported by Rikard Jozwiak, Europe editor at Radio Free Europe, citing his own sources.
It is noted that, apart from Plunina, six more propagandists were added to the sanctions list, including TV presenter Pavel Zarubin.
In October 2025 President Volodymyr Zelensky deprived Plunina of Ukrainian citizenship.
Prior to that, in April 2025, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine adopted a decision to impose sanctions on him.
Sergiy Polunin was born in Kherson; in 2012 he moved to Russia.
In addition to Russian citizenship, the dancer also holds Ukrainian and Serbian passports.
Polunin is an ardent supporter of the Russian president Putin, whom he called “an angel”, “a good person full of light and love”.
In November 2018 Polunin announced that he had obtained Russian citizenship, uploading a photo of his new passport and stating that he was “glad to become a Russian”.
He performed at the “Opera in Chersonesus” festival, which took place in annexed Crimea.
