The condition of 24-year-old Kherson resident Mykola Shcherbina, who was kidnapped by the occupiers in 2022, is currently critical — his legs have begun to rot due to terrible dampness and unsanitary conditions in a Russian pre-trial detention center.
This was reported by ZMINA, citing Mykola’s mother.
According to her, in February 2025 in the prison in the city of Kamyshin in the Russian Federation, guards brutally beat Mykola simply because he dared to ask for medical help. After the abuse, blood vessels in his eyes burst, and due to constant undernourishment he lost a critical amount of weight.
Released prisoners who were in the same cell with Mykola describe the conditions as inhuman: the premises are covered with mold, and tuberculosis and scabies are spreading among the inmates. Instead of proper treatment, the wounds on his legs were simply treated with brilliant green, and only after prolonged pleas was a course of antibiotics prescribed.
Earlier, Russia officially confirmed detaining the civilian man, bringing him charges of «opposing the special military operation».
Recall, Russian military initially tried to illegally detain Mykola Shcherbina at a checkpoint in the settlement of Pryozerne in the Kherson region. The young man was then released, but on November 14, during searches of local residents’ homes, he was taken from his home.
