In 2026–2027 numerous commemorative dates and anniversaries of prominent figures, institutions and events of the region will be celebrated in Kherson Oblast.
The relevant order was signed by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
According to the document, in 2026 the region plans to mark anniversaries of cultural institutions. In particular, on September 2 it will be 75 years since the founding of the Kherson Academic Regional Puppet Theater, and on November 6 — 90 years since the establishment of the Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Mykola Kulish. Also in October they will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the launching of the first vessel built at the Kherson Shipbuilding Plant.
Among the dates important for the region is November 11, when the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Kherson and the right-bank part of the region from Russian occupiers will be observed. Also in 2026 it is planned to honor the 315th anniversary of the founding of the Oleshky Sich and the 235th anniversary of the founding of the city of Kakhovka.
The list also includes anniversaries of individuals connected to Kherson Oblast. Thus, on September 2 they will mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the English philanthropist John Howard, whose life was closely connected with Kherson.
September 5 — the 90th anniversary of the birth of poet Valentyna Nyzhchenko,
September 9 — the 50th anniversary of the birth of conductor Yuriy Kerpatenko, who was killed by Russians in 2022.
On November 1 it will be 165 years since the birth of the writer Dniprova Chaika, and on November 16 — 180 years since the birth of the painter Mykola Skadovsky.
There will also be days of remembrance related to the war. March 1 — the anniversary of the death of fighters of the Kherson Territorial Defense Forces in Buzkovyi Park in the first days of the full-scale invasion, and June 6 — the anniversary of the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP, which caused one of the largest man-made disasters in the history of Ukraine.
In 2027 among the key dates is February 28, when the 75th anniversary of the founding of the city of Nova Kakhovka will be celebrated.
On June 18 the Oles Honchar Kherson Regional Universal Scientific Library will mark its 155th anniversary, and on July 14 — the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Also in 2027 they will honor anniversaries of cultural and scientific figures. In particular, January 9 — the 100th anniversary of the birth of writer and journalist Yuriy Holoborodko, April 12 — the 140th anniversary of the birth of artist Heorhiy Kurnakov, October 25 — the 170th anniversary of the birth of folklorist and public figure Andriy Konopenko, November 2 — the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Motorniy.
Recall, 2026 in Kherson Oblast will be the Year of Dniprova Chaika. This decision was made to honor the memory of the prominent Ukrainian writer and public figure Lyudmyla Oleksiivna Vasylevska-Berezina, a native of Kherson Oblast.
