The editor-in-chief and the person responsible for issues of the Kherson regional newspaper “New Day” in 2026 became Oleksiy Kovalchuk. He is the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional organization of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NSJU) and the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Visti Prydniprovia”.
This was reported by the head of the NSJU, Serhiy Tomilenko.
Anatoliy Zhupyna retains the position of director of the publication.
Personnel and organizational changes took place against the backdrop of a financial crisis in the editorial office. At the end of 2025 the New Day team announced a possible suspension of the newspaper’s publication due to depleted resources, relocation and lack of funds for printing and logistics, Tomilenko wrote.
“To preserve the publication, the operational activities and the preparation of issues were taken over by the Dnipro Center for Journalistic Solidarity and the team of ‘Visti Prydniprovia’. Oleksiy Kovalchuk, together with his Dnipro colleagues, will assist with optimizing printing, logistics and work on social networks,” the post says.
The NSJU wants to move to a regular four-week cycle [of publication], as with ‘Visti Prydniprovia’.
Recall, the first issue of the newspaper “New Day” after the liberation of the right bank of Kherson region was published on November 19, 2022.
Anatoliy Zhupyna has been the editor-in-chief of the newspaper since February 1996. During the temporary occupation of Kherson he remained in the city until March 22, 2022. He later left for Lviv, where in November of the same year he resumed publication of “New Day”.
