The Kherson City Court has issued a verdict against former police captain Mykola Kavun, who after the start of the full-scale invasion remained in occupied Kherson and voluntarily went into service with the Russians.
This is stated in the court ruling.
Kavun served as a senior duty inspector of a police department and, instead of carrying out the evacuation order, submitted an application to the illegally created Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kherson region, after which he obtained the position of acting commander of a platoon of the patrol-post service.
According to the investigation, already in July 2022 Mykola Kavun transferred to the special unit “Grom”, where he worked as a senior inspector of the rapid response group.
According to eyewitnesses, he wore a Russian police uniform, carried a weapon, and did not hide that he agreed to the job because of the high salary.
Evidence of his work for the Russians, in particular personnel orders and lists of employees, were found by law enforcement officers during searches after the de-occupation of the right bank.
The court in absentia found Mykola Kavun guilty of high treason and collaborationist activity (Part 2 Art. 111, Part 7 Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all property.
In addition, he was stripped of the special rank “police captain”.
Earlier we wrote that a Kherson resident was sentenced to 8 years for serving in an occupied colony of the Russian Federation.
