The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed a collaborator from Kherson region who, after the de-occupation of the area, spent nearly four years hiding in the basement of his relatives’ home in an attempt to evade justice.
This was reported on the social media pages of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kherson region.
According to the SBU, the 46-year-old man had previously been convicted of murder. After Russian forces seized the Beryslav district, he voluntarily agreed to cooperate with the occupiers.
The investigation found that during the temporary occupation of Kherson region, the man took part in preparing an illegal referendum and became a member of the occupying “election commission No. 809.” He went door to door, urging local residents to vote for the so-called annexation of the region by the Russian Federation.
After the region was liberated, he went into hiding in the basement of his relatives’ house.
He has now been served with a notice of suspicion under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine related to collaboration activities and encroachment on the country’s territorial integrity. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
This was reported on the SBU’s social media in Kherson Oblast.
