Canadian organizations MetaCluster TIASI and GREEK CHALLENGE have started cooperation with farmers of the Kherson region as part of a pilot agricultural project to grow olive trees.
This was reported by the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
The initiative is related to changes in climatic conditions that affect the yield of crops traditional for the region.
“Traditional crops that were previously profitable are losing their business appeal due to declining yields in the new climatic realities, but they are being replaced by plants that feel comfortable in such conditions”, – the post reads.
The first olive saplings were planted in a greenhouse with the participation of the founder and CEO of MetaCluster TIASI’s strategic partner Sotiris A. Bouzeas.
It is noted that growing olives requires a specific temperature regime, an irrigation system and appropriate fertilizers. Currently the project is being implemented in a test format on a small area, which will allow assessment of the suitability of the Kherson region’s climate and the effectiveness of cultivation technologies.
In spring the saplings are planned to be transplanted outdoors, and the first results of the experiment are expected as early as next winter.
Earlier it was reported that in 2025 farmers on the right bank of the Kherson region lost almost 60 thousand hectares of crops.
In 2025 the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council urgently asked the government to resolve the issue of immediately providing state support to farms in the Kherson region to save them.
