Former Kherson City Council official Iryna Chekhun, who voluntarily sided with the Russians, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
This is stated in the court verdict.
Before the full-scale invasion, the woman worked as the chief accountant of the Department for State Architectural and Construction Control (DABK) of the Kherson City Council.
In July 2022 Chekhun accepted the offer of another collaborator (a former deputy director of the Department of Budget and Finance of the city council) and took the position of head of the revenue and consolidated budget department in the occupation VCA of Kherson.
To avoid responsibility, Chekhun adhered to clandestine measures and used the fictitious name “Kristina”.
Under this pseudonym she prepared expenditures for the city’s housing and communal services according to Russian standards, assessed the efficiency of the occupiers’ budget spending, and prepared reports for the illegal administration.
Witnesses in the case — the convicted woman’s former colleagues — confirmed that she worked voluntarily, behaved confidently and showed no signs of coercion. The collaborator’s workplace was located in the seized city council building at 37 Ushakova Avenue.
After Kherson was liberated in November 2022, Iryna Chekhun fled with the occupation authorities to Henichesk, where she continued her illegal activities.
Iryna Chekhun was found guilty under part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaborationist activity). She was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, confiscation of all her property, and a ban on holding positions in government bodies for 15 years.
