The year 2025 was unsuccessful for farmers on the right bank of Kherson Oblast. They lost nearly 60,000 hectares of crops, emphasized the director of the regional Department of Agricultural Development and Irrigation Dmytro Yunusov, writes agronews.ua.
According to him, farmers suffered most from drought. Mainly — winter crops: winter wheat, barley, rapeseed, peas, and also many sunflower fields. In addition, according to statistics, last year there was an increase in drone attacks on tractor drivers and combine operators.
«Already two farmers have died from drone attacks, one farmer’s tractor driver was killed when explosives were dropped, and around five others were wounded as a result of UAV strikes. The trend of drone attacks and the danger forced many farmers to move away, to abandon the fields they had sown. Our farmers also lost a lot — about 5,000 hectares of land that burned as a result of unmanned aerial vehicle attacks or artillery strikes», — added Yunusov.
However, the official added that in 2025 more than 460,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Kherson region have already been demined.
«That’s almost 87%. Among other positive points, I would note an increase in irrigated area. That is, if in 2024 we had restored 3,000 hectares, then in 2025 we restored another 1,000 hectares of irrigated land, and these fields now have water», — Yunusov summarized.
It was previously reported that STOV “Pershe Travnya” from the Kherson region became the first agricultural enterprise in Ukraine to receive state compensation for the humanitarian demining of agricultural land carried out before 2024.
