The Novovorontsovsk District Court handed down a sentence to former candidate for local councils in the Kherson region, Yuriy Latyshev.
This is stated in the court’s verdict.
As the investigation established, in April 2022 in Nova Kakhovka Latyshev hoisted on a flagpole a flag bearing the hammer and sickle, displaying the symbolism of the communist totalitarian regime, which has been banned in Ukraine since 2015.
He also gave an interview to a pro-Russian media outlet in which he expressed support for the aggressor state.
During the trial, testimony from residents of Nova Kakhovka was also heard.
One witness said that he knew Latyshev and had repeatedly seen a vehicle of Russian military personnel near his house. Also, on the eve of May 9 he distributed posters around the city announcing a concert on the occasion of the so-called “Victory Day”.
The court in absentia found Yuriy Latyshev guilty of collaborationist activity and the public use of the symbolism of the communist totalitarian regime (Part 6 Art. 111-1, Part 1 Art. 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 11 years in prison with confiscation of all his property.
Note that in 2020 Latyshev ran for the Nova Kakhovka City Council and for the Kakhovka District Council from the “Volodymyr Saldo Bloc”.
