A Kherson resident, Iryna, who was sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment for spying for Russia, was found guilty of collaborating with the enemy during the full-scale war.
The woman’s story was published by the project Krym.Realii.
According to journalists, in 2023 the woman provided the Russian side with information about the movements and locations of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She sent the data via the Telegram channel of Russian deputy Igor Kostyukevich.
Besides collecting information, Iryna said that she knitted socks for Russian soldiers.
During conversations with journalists the woman did not hide her pro-Russian views. She stated that she recognizes the laws of the Russian Federation and does not consider the capture of Kherson an occupation. Iryna explained this position by her family background — her father’s service in the structures of the NKVD of the USSR and having relatives in Russia.
Despite her love for Russia, the woman remained living in Ukraine, explaining that she owns a house in Kherson and did not want to leave her native city.
After the de-occupation of the right-bank of the Kherson region, she was detained.
The convicted woman currently hopes to be included on exchange lists in order to go to Russia. She claims to have family ties with high-ranking Russian military officers and plans to settle in Moscow if released.
