The court handed down a sentence to former employee of the Northern Correctional Colony No. 90 in Kherson, Ihor Malay. He was found guilty of collaborationist activity.
This is stated in the court’s verdict.
As the investigation and the court established, during the occupation of Kherson Malay voluntarily agreed to cooperate with the occupying authorities and obtained the position of junior inspector of the 2nd category of the supervision group of the security department in the captured colony.
In this position Malay supervised inmates, monitored compliance with the daily routine, and enforced the prison regime.
In March 2024 Malay was detained by Ukrainian law enforcement. Since then he has been in custody.
During the court hearings the defendant did not admit his guilt, claiming that he was forced to work due to difficult financial circumstances and the need to support his sick mother. He stated that he did not understand that he was working for an illegal occupying structure.
However, interviewed witnesses said that Malay took a job at the colony only after it was captured by Russian forces and could not have failed to realize that he was working for the occupiers.
The court found Ihor Malay guilty of collaborationist activity (part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Earlier we wrote that a court in Vinnytsia found guilty of treason and of encroaching on the territorial integrity of Ukraine the head of the so-called Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the self-proclaimed Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Andriy Sprynchan.
