Ukrainian journalist and political prisoner Hennadiy Osmak was transferred to strict-regime Colony No. 6 in Melekhovo, Vladimir region of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center notes that the transfer lasted over the past two months. According to the organization, during the movement Osmak suffered physical and psychological pressure and was completely deprived of contact with his family. He was able to contact his relatives only after arriving at the colony.
Also, according to the Center, Osmak does not have access to necessary diabetes medication, which is worsening his health. The family, they say, cannot deliver the medicines to the colony, which poses a direct threat to his life.
Before the full-scale invasion, Hennadiy Osmak lived in Henichesk and worked as the head of the local publication “New Visit”.
The Russians illegally detained him in March 2024. He was charged with participation in the Crimean Tatar battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan, which Russia calls a “terrorist organization.” The occupation court sentenced him to 3 years and 2 months in prison.
The cassation hearing in Osmak’s case is scheduled for December 11 this year. The lawyer plans to seek a reduced sentence, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center writes.
According to human rights defenders, Osmak was tortured while in captivity, which led to health complications, including an exacerbation of diabetes and spinal problems.
Recall that after February 24, 2022, at least 66 arrests were recorded on charges of participation in the battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan: 19 in occupied Crimea, 47 in occupied Kherson region.
