A Kherson resident has been sentenced to up to 8 years in prison for participating in the conduct of an illegal ‘referendum’ in the occupied territory of Kherson region in 2022.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, at the end of September 2022 the man joined in organizing the pseudo-voting in the villages of Zahorianivka and Skhidne of Kherson district. He transported ballots and a ballot box, facilitated the voting of local residents for the ‘joining’ of Kherson region to the Russian Federation and actively urged people to take part in the illegal event.
The court found him guilty of collaborationist activity and sentenced him to 8 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property. The convicted person is also prohibited for 10 years from holding any positions in bodies of state power, local self-government, as well as positions related to organizational and managerial, administrative and economic functions, the provision of public services, or participation in electoral processes.
The verdict was issued in absentia. Serving the sentence will begin after his arrest.
