The Security Service detained in Kherson a 52-year-old local resident who in June 2022 collaborated with Russian military forces.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the case materials, the man voluntarily joined the Department of Penal Enforcement for the Kherson region created by the occupiers.
There he received a Russian-style uniform, weapons, and an identification document, which allowed him to move around the city freely through enemy checkpoints.
In the occupation authority, he was appointed as a junior inspector of a Russian torture facility that the enemy established in the building of the correctional colony captured at that time. He guarded prison cells where members of the resistance movement were brought.
After Kherson was liberated, the man stayed in the city and tried to avoid accountability by remaining unnoticed.
SBU officers documented the suspect’s crimes, established his address, and detained him.
Based on the collected evidence, investigators of the Security Service informed him of suspicion of collaborationist activity (part 7 of article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The man is currently in custody. He faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Earlier we wrote that the SBU and Lithuanian law enforcement officers detained at the border a Russian UAV operator who was launching drones at Kherson.
