The SBU and Lithuanian law enforcement detained at the border a Russian UAV operator who launched drones at Kherson.
This was reported on the SBU’s page.
According to the investigation, the 33-year-old native of the Sumy region, after the annexation of Crimea, obtained a Russian passport, joined the United Russia party and voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. He served as an operator of strike unmanned aerial vehicles – in particular, he launched Russian strike drones at Kherson.
After taking part in the fighting, the man left the front and attempted to flee to the European Union, where he planned to obtain refugee status using a Ukrainian passport.
Lithuanian law enforcement detained him at the border and handed him over to the Ukrainian side.
SBU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of treason committed under martial law (Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The militant is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
