In May 2024 Russia struck the Dnipropetrovsk region with missiles. As a result – Junior Sergeant Roman Romanyuk was killed.
He was born in the Kherson region. The soldier took part in the liberation of Snake Island, as well as in international peacekeeping missions.

Junior Sergeant Romanyuk was wounded on May 11, 2024 in the village of Manvelivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where he was refueling helicopters.
The occupiers struck the airfield with missiles. Fragments hit the serviceman’s heart and lungs. He died from his injuries. Nine of his comrades were killed with him.
He devoted his whole life to the army. He fought in the ATO, participated in peacekeeping missions in Liberia and Sierra Leone. And later he helped liberate Snake Island from the occupiers, the publication reports.
The soldier was married and had two sons.
As early as 1998 the man signed a contract with the 11th Army Aviation Brigade, which was based in Chornobaivka in the Kherson region. He was a driver, a refueler, and a crane operator, could adjust and repair any equipment. He also took part in peacekeeping operations in Sierra Leone and Liberia. In 2014 he fought in the Donetsk region, the deceased’s wife Tetyana Romanyuk told the publication.
In spring 2022 Sergeant Romanyuk helped evacuate wounded fighters from “Azovstal”, and in the summer, together with his comrades, liberated Snake Island from Russian forces.
The 48-year-old Junior Sergeant Roman Romanyuk was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree, the publication reports.
