Dzharylhatskyi National Nature Park is once again headed by Iryna Sabashenko.
The change of leadership is reflected in the YouControl business analytics system.
Sabashenko has been temporarily serving as the national park’s acting director since October 6. Before that, the park was headed for a year by Oleksandr Finchenko.
Note that, Iryna Sabashenko was the park’s director from 2019 to 2024.
Since February 24, 2022, Dzharylhatskyi National Nature Park has been under Russian occupation. The park includes Dzharylhach Island, the waters of the Dzharylhatska Bay, as well as the coastal strip between Skadovsk and Lazurne.
In 2023, information emerged that Russian forces had filled the isthmus between Dzharylhach Island and the occupied part of the Kherson region with sand for its use for military purposes. This threatened the island’s ecosystem and its waters. There the Russian army allegedly set up a military training ground.
According to preliminary estimates by the Kherson District Military Administration, as of January 2024 the damage to the park’s biodiversity caused by the war amounts to 102 billion hryvnias.
